ADHD, or attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, is one of the common disorders in children these days. ADHD symptoms can actually be grouped into three categories. These include hyperactivity, inattention, and impulsivity. Being aware of these categories can greatly assist you in determining whether or not your child is affected with the disorder. But if you do see some of these symptoms in your child, there is actually no immediate need for worry. For a child to be diagnosed with ADHD, these symptoms have to be manifested for 6 months, at the very least.

Still, you have to pay close attention to these symptoms because each case is as relative as they can come. Not all children will exhibit the same set of symptoms at all. This is precisely why you would still need to consult a psychiatrist to make sure an accurate diagnosis is achieved.

Hyperactivity symptoms are basically associated with excitement. Children normally exhibit hyperactivity simply because they get excited over the littlest things very easily. But be on the lookout if these symptoms are persistent for over 6 months. Squirming when sitting down, often accompanied with fidgeting, is one symptom of hyperactivity. Inappropriate running around with an exhibition of restlessness is also to be looked out for.

Inattention symptoms are characterized by a lack of focus and attention on matters that are to be regarded as important. Failure in paying attention to instructions and details is one common symptom. Keeping focus or concentration in performing tasks is also another. A child affected with ADHD also exhibits difficulty in the mere act of organizing his schedule of activities or tasks to complete. The child frequently loses the things that he needs in order to carry out these tasks or activities as well. Inattention also means that the child has the unfortunate tendency of failing to follow through with whatever instructions that have been laid down for him to follow.

Impulsivity symptoms strongly imply that the child is not able to control his impulses. The child may give out answers way before the questions are completed. The child may also have trouble waiting for his turn at something. There may also be times when the child would interrupt a certain conversation, by interjecting something that he finds of value to input. Usually, the onset of impulsive behavior occurs before the child reaches 7 years of age.

These are just some of the ADHD symptoms that are observed in most cases. To be sure, do not hesitate to consult child psychiatrists for this problem. This way, you can also be educated as to how to tackle the disorder effectively.
